Do you want to be a writer, but you are plagued with writer’s block and don’t know where to start? Do you need a boost of inspiration? Well, look no further. The following is a list of 20 writing prompts to get your creative juices flowing.

1. Look up fine art on the internet. Find a piece that you are drawn to. Write a short story or poem inspired by the artwork.

2. Go sit in a park or in a public place with a lot of people. Find someone or a few people who look interesting to you. Write a short story or poem inspired by the person or people.

3. Write a story about your dream job.

4. Write about your first romance or one of your romances.

5. Write about something paranormal such as ghosts, time travel, fairies, or aliens.

6. Write a story or poem based around a non-fiction event. You can use an event from history that you are drawn to, and create a story that takes place during that time frame.

7. Write about one of your favorite pets.

8. Write about a time that you learned something new.

9. Write about an interesting family member.

10. Write about nature. You might want to include animals or insects in the story.

11. Write a story or poem that includes your religious or spiritual beliefs.

12. Write about a time you lost something.

13. Write about cooking or food.

14. Write about one of your favorite memories from childhood.

15. Write about your early school days.

16. Write a story about moving to a new city.

17. Write a story about being a parent.

18. Write a story or poem about a dream you have had.

19. Write a story about one of the best days of your life.

20. Write about a trip you took in the United States or abroad. Travel writing is a popular and exciting genre because it exposes people to other cultures that they may not be familiar with.
